Ally Welty Peachey, a senior Biology and Environmental Science major at Eastern Mennonite University, is a summer intern for Mennonite Central Committee’s National Peace and Justice Ministries in Washington, D.C., through the Anabaptist Climate Collaborative (ACC). She was named one of 13 recipients of the MEA Scholarship for BIPOC Students for the 2024-24 academic year.

Welty Peachey’s passion for environmental studies and her desire to enact large-scale changes through community-based efforts impressed the scholarship selection committee. She wrote, “One thing I have always been drawn to in the Mennonite church is the emphasis on serving others and doing God’s work. To me, a core value of being a Mennonite follower of Jesus is taking action and not remaining bystanders.”

You can read a recent story Ally wrote for ACC about the Hesston (Kan.) Mennonite Church’s solar panel project at https://www.anabaptistclimate.org/hmc-solar.

Ally’s home church is First Mennonite Church of Champaign-Urbana, Ill., a dual member of Central District Conference and Illinois Mennonite Conference of Mennonite Church USA.
