Luke Yoder ‘04 and David Yoder ‘10 proudly represented their alma mater on the historic, Boston Marathon course, soaring to the finish and inspiring the Hillcrest community. Luke and David both ran the 26.2 miles of Boston pavement in less than three hours.

Luke, a seasoned marathoner, achieved a personal best time of 2:58:54 (6:50 per mile), demonstrating his dedication to the sport and unwavering commitment to pushing his limits, accomplishing his goal of finishing under 3 hours. Ten years prior (in 2014), he ran the Boston Marathon in 3:00:08. David, a first-time Boston Marathon participant, crossed the finish line with a smile at 2:42:26 (6:12 per mile), proving his resilience and determination in conquering this challenging race. David lives and trains in Harrisonburg, VA, while Luke’s training is mostly near his farm in rural Kalona. They both are married to alumni, Luke to Rachel (Yoder ‘07) and David to Allison (Bontrager ‘09). Both spouses understood the physical and mental challenges their husbands faced. They served as their biggest cheerleaders, offering not only emotional support, but also practical help.

The Hillcrest Academy community is incredibly proud of these two alumni for their accomplishments. Their success serves as an inspiration to current students, demonstrating the importance of perseverance, dedication, and the pursuit of personal goals. Congratulations, Luke and David! We celebrate your resilience and Hillcrest spirit!
