“Conectados,” which translates to “Connected,” was the name given to the Iglesia Menonita Hispana (Hispanic Mennonite Church – IMH) Conference. The gathering took place on May 5 and 6 at Iglesia Sonido de Alabanza (Sound of Praise Church) in Cicero, Illinois. The conference was marked by great moments for each participant to connect with other brothers and sisters in the faith.

The conference is the first to be held in person after almost three years of pandemic. Delegates, pastors, and representatives of the Mennonite Church USA agencies participated.

There were great moments of praise and prayer. In every decision to be made, the main objective was to seek God’s direction. Pastor Juan B. Ferrera opened the assembly by sharing the word of God. Pastor Alberto Parchmont gave a Finance report, including the balance sheet of IMH, the general fund, Hispanic Ministries, Alma, the Grace Fund, Mennonite Mission Network, and Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), among others and, additionally, it sought to establish an action plan for the next two years.

Ulises Arenas, the outgoing executive director of the Hispanic Mennonite Church, was recognized for his service. He presented his resignation and said his farewells. He also blessed the outgoing board of directors for their two years of hard work integrating the conference, especially in tough times of the pandemic.

The new Executive Board leaders were welcomed and thanked for taking up the challenge: Josué González, Moderator; Suhelen Cazarez, Moderator Elect; Rosa Solís, Secretary; Sergio Navas, Treasurer; Misael Araujo, Music.
