Hope for the Future conferences began in 2011 as a gathering of Racial/Ethnic leaders throughout Mennonite Church USA. These annual conferences are designed to bring together the different Racial/Ethnic groups — Asian Mennonite Ministries; African American Mennonite Association; African, Belizean, Caribbean, Mennonite Missions Association; Iglesia Menonita Hispana (Hispanic Mennonite Church); and Native Mennonite Ministries — and to strategize ways to increase Racial/Ethnic representation among Mennonite Church leadership.

The conference is a time for participants to gather together as a worshiping community of faith in a safe place for open conversation among leaders and emerging leaders of Mennonite Church USA, regardless of their culture or family name. Participants at Hope for the Future are naming the challenges Racial/Ethnic leaders face and seeking ways to lead systemic practices towards transformation.

MEA is one of the sponsors of this event with MEA executive director, Carlos Romero serving as one of the event planners.
