Introduction to Mennonite education

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.” —Romans 12:2

Mennonites are concerned with educating the whole student – academically, spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically. Curricula and programs also include biblical education, peace awareness, community-building, corporate worship and emphasis on music, small group interaction and personal attention from teachers.

The life and witness of Mennonite Church USA is characterized by:

  • a passionate commitment to the lordship of Jesus Christ in all aspects of corporate and personal life;
  • a deep and abiding dedication to the distinctive Anabaptist/Mennonite expression of Christian faith as summarized in the “Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective”;
  • the assurance that this faith expression must be anti-racist, including persons “from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages” (Rev. 7:9); and
  • the conviction that we are called to “teach this faith to our children and children’s children” (Deut. 4:9).

Mennonite educational institutions play a critical role in this process by:

  • serving as creative, anti-racist communities of discernment, research and reflection on the meaning and practical expression of Anabaptist/Mennonite faith in today’s world;
  • providing instruction and leadership training that understands and meets the needs of the church and the world;
  • collaborating with the church in calling out and preparing pastoral and other leadership for the church; and
  • standing as important missional agents for Mennonite Church USA, inviting all students into a vital relationship with Jesus Christ and the community of faith.
