Church Education Sunday 2009
How a holy and awesome God speaks through ordinary people who seek God

Sunday, February 1, 2009, is the desinated Church Education Sunday. MEA recognizes that some congregations already have that Sunday planned so our materials are no longer specific to that date. We have also increased the options for the worship service and developed a number of other resources. We invite congregations to use these materials throughout the year. This year's Church Education Sunday materials are available in one PDF document (48-page booklet). Please allow for adequate time for it to download.

2008 Church Education Sunday resources

Here you will find worship resources and a bulletin insert master (in both English and Spanish) from Mennonite Education Agency for Church Education Sunday (February 3, 2008). This year's theme is "We are witnesses." Church Education Sunday, the first Sunday of each February, coincides with Transfiguration Sunday this year. The resources focus on lectionary texts, speak of MEA and congregational members as witnesses to the power of Mennonite education in helping shape the church, and invite all to participate in Mennonite education.

	Church Education Sunday Resources for 2007

	The first Sunday of February is Church Education Sunday in Mennonite Church USA. For 2007, Mennonite Education Agency (MEA) offers worship resources and a bulletin insert on the theme, Called to be missional.

	These are available in English and Spanish and can be downloaded here. The worship resources include Scripture, song, prayer, story and sermon ideas. The bulletin insert is ready to copy and distribute.

	MEA invites your congregation to pray for the missional calling of Mennonite education. Mennonite educational institutions, from PreK schools to seminaries, and the Racial/Ethnic Leadership Education programs of the church prepare students for church membership and leadership. They also are missional centers of activity as students, teachers and staff seek to discover and get involved in God’s purposes for the world.

	Look for stories about Mennonite education in the January 23 issue of The Mennonite. MEA hopes these materials are useful and welcomes your feedback.

2005 Worship Planning Resources and Bulletin Insert

We had good response to last year's materials (on The Teacher's Wisdom -- still available in the module below) and hope that congregations across Mennonite Church USA will also benefit from new materials for Church Education Sunday 2005 -- February 6.

Written by a group in Harrisonburg, Va., headed by Gloria Diener, the materials focus on the theme: Loving God, rekindling the mind. We also are grateful to Gloria, Brian Martin Burkholder, Jill Landis and Elizabeth Phelps for their prayerful work on these materials for congregations.

The Resources for Worship Planning can be copied onto an 11x17 sheet of paper, two sides. The bulletin insert master is for two sides of an 8.5x11 sheet, one fold.

We encourage congregations to contact people in Mennonite educational institutions to be part of their worship on February 6. Logistics for church visits should be handled directly between congregation and school; MEA will not be involved in this.

From Mennonite Education Agency, these materials were created to assist in planning worship for the 2004 Church Education Sunday (February 1). The theme was "The Teacher's Wisdom." While these materials were prepared for a past event, they have been left here because they may be helpful in the celebration of Christian education any Sunday such a celebration will be planned. A bulletin insert master is also provided for your congregation to copy and distribute on Church Education Sunday or any Sunday your congregation chooses to celebrate Church education..
